Bergerac Seed & Breeding (BSB) is a 100 % subsidiary of  the mutual agricultural reinsurance fund of the French tobacco growers (CRMAPT) and, as a seed company, is dedicated to tobacco breeding, and to the production and commercialisation of tobacco seeds to the tobacco-growing sector.

BSB was founded in 2015. However our history with tobacco seed goes back significantly further as part of our breeding and seed staff formerly worked at the well-known Tobacco Institute of Bergerac (ITB) that is now closed.

We are able to breed, produce, treat, package and sell seeds all from BSB facilities located in Bergerac, South West of France. Only pelleting is subcontracted.

BSB makes continuous investments in the improvement of the quality of its seeds, as well as the development of new hybrids with a higher yield and leaf quality potential, resistances to pests and diseases, and adaptation to various climatic conditions. Our flue-cured, burley and dark tobacco varieties have proved to be adapted to different countries conditions, in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Our facilities include 3 to 4 ha of tobacco seed production and breeding fields, breeding greenhouses, chemistry and pathology laboratories, tobacco curing facilities, and seed cleaning and storage facilities. For seed production, pollen is also provided to more than 10 farmers who produce seeds for us under contract.

Moreover, our tobacco breeding expertise makes possible the implementation of specific breeding programs adapted to various countries, under contract, and our seed production skills makes possible seed production from your own parents.

Additional services such as agronomy technical assistance (remote or at location), molecular marking, alkaloid (nicotine and nornicotine) analyses and pathology tests can also be proposed.
